Very interesting. "Painstakingly culling selections from the textbook" is indeed the too-frequent result of following the framework. I fear for the fragmented nature of such a curriculum, whose lessons accrue more like junk in a junk drawer than like a pattern with a logic or direction. However, creativity is a strong enough anecdote, I think. I think that one of the outstanding challenges of the teacher is just that: to unify knowledge, to make it coherent, cohesive, relevant beyond the specified objective.
